STEP Congratulates Canadian Organic Spice and Herb Co. on Receiving the 2022 ABEX Export Award

Written by Saskatchewan Trade and Export Partnership (STEP)

As a finalist for a Saskatchewan Chamber of Commerce 2022 ABEX Award, Colleen Haussecker, founder of Canadian Organic Spice & Herb Co., and her team were excited for the presentation of this year’s Export award sponsored by Saskatchewan Trade and Export Partnership (STEP).

Though bad weather meant they couldn’t attend in person, the evening did not disappoint as through the livestream, Colleen watched STEP’s CEO Chris Dekker announce Canadian Organic Spice & Herb Co. as the 2022 Export Award winner!

As one of Canada’s first organic spice and herb companies, the company leads the way in the sale and export of organic herbs, spices, dip mixes, seasoning blends and gluten-free oats under the retail brand Splendor Garden. Over the years, the company has been nominated for six Chamber of Commerce awards within Saskatchewan and won five, including this year’s Achievement in Business Excellence Export award.

“This award was especially exciting for us after two years of operating through the COVID pandemic”, Haussecker said. “It’s been a challenging couple of years, so it’s great to be acknowledged. It’s even more exciting to be acknowledged alongside other nominees of incredible caliber.”

A STEP member since 2014, Haussecker noted, “STEP was one of our first memberships and it is still one of our main memberships, providing the most value to the company. We are very appreciative of the added support we receive from STEP.”

STEP has had the pleasure of watching the Saskatchewan-based company grow and expand, offering incredible quality to customers in markets near and far. Currently, Canadian Organic Spice & Herb Co. exports its products to Japan, Vietnam, and Australia. The demand for supply has increased, and so Colleen and her company are in the process of another infrastructure expansion, adding on a 9,600 square foot space to their existing warehouse in Watson (expected completion, March 2023). The staff compliment has increased from 15 to 18 since Spring 2022 to meet the growing demand.

Since the team was not able to make it to the ABEX Award ceremony in Saskatoon to accept their achievement, Colleen would like to “thank STEP, the Chamber of Commerce, and the people of Saskatchewan and beyond for helping to promote our products. Customers across Canada and from around the world have been welcoming and supportive. We couldn’t have grown the Splendor Garden brand without their word-of-mouth praise. It’s truly the best way to grow a brand.”

STEP and the Saskatchewan Chamber of Commerce, congratulate Canadian Organic Herb & Spice Co. on their achievements and wish them continued business success.
