M. D. Ambulance Care to be inducted into the Saskatchewan Chamber of Commerce
Business Hall of Fame

Saskatoon business M. D. Ambulance Care Ltd. will be inducted into the Saskatchewan Chamber of Commerce Business Hall of Fame at the 2014 ABEX Awards November 1 in Regina.

“M. D. Ambulance’s long and distinguished history within the province, along with its significant contributions to the emergency medical services community in Canada, making M. D. Ambulance a natural choice for the Business Hall of Fame,” said Steve McLellan, CEO of the Saskatchewan Chamber of Commerce.

M. D. Ambulance Care began as a family business back in 1957 when founder Michael Dutchak realized the need for ambulance services in Blaine Lake, and began Blaine Lake Ambulance. The business expanded to several other communities before starting service to Saskatoon in 1976. Over the years that followed, MD Ambulance Care distinguished itself as a leader in Emergency Medical Services and Communications in Saskatchewan and Canada. Today, Michael’s son Dave Dutchak proudly serves as the President and CEO, carrying on the family tradition of service to community. MD Ambulance was acquired by Nova-Scotia based MedWest EMS in 2014 with a commitment to retaining all the core strengths built by the Dutchak family over its almost 60 years.

Dave has served as president of the Saskatchewan Emergency Medical Services Association, as well as working with the Emergency Medical Services Chiefs of Canada and being involved with the board of Canadian Paramedic Chiefs of Canada. Dave has been the Chair of both the Saskatchewan Chamber of Commerce and the Greater Saskatoon Chamber of Commerce and has played a long standing and very significant role in both the Saskatoon and provincial business communities.

M. D. Ambulance Care has committed to improving the emergency medical services industry, through investment in innovations such as a computer aided dispatch system to improve care services, and the development of a seamless computerized real-time feedback system. The company holds the longest standing accreditation as a centre of excellence since 2000.

“Dave and his team at M. D. Ambulance are true examples of what business in Saskatchewan can achieve. He is very active in community affairs and committed to working within his community to improve the economic position of the province,” McLellan said. “We are honoured to have M. D. Ambulance join our Hall of Fame.”
