Chambers of Commerce Launch Million Dollar 'Shop Local' Activities Across Saskatchewan

Sixteen chambers of commerce in Saskatchewan launched “Shop Local” campaigns and continue to engage in activities aimed at encouraging support for local businesses within their communities. The Government of Canada funded the $1,155,000 Canada Shop Local project, which is administered by the Saskatchewan Chamber of Commerce and has been rolled out by local chambers of commerce across the province.

As part of their campaigns, chambers embarked on video projects that share unique stories about the almost 900 Saskatchewan businesses featured in this project. Videos are available on YouTube and on the Facebook pages of the 16 chambers.

“This initiative has created awareness around the thousands of great local businesses in this province and how we can all support them. The importance of supporting local businesses and creating a strong local economy has never been more important and I applaud these chambers of commerce for their efforts in rolling out this fantastic initiative with such great success,” said Steve McLellan, CEO of the Saskatchewan Chamber of Commerce.

The campaigns also highlight the importance of supporting local businesses through real-time data around the economic value and job creation opportunities of shopping local. Supporting local businesses supports local charities and sports teams, creates jobs and builds vibrant and unique communities that encourage investment and growth.

Shop Local activities are underway in 19 communities across Saskatchewan. Watch the stories of proud Saskatchewan businesses and discover Shop Local activities in your community here.
