In light of recent trade developments between Canada and the United States, the Government of Canada is strengthening the Regional Tariff Response Initiative (RTRI) with additional investments to support Canadian businesses affected by trade disruptions. The Saskatchewan Chamber is sharing this update so our members are aware of available supports.

What’s Available:
The RTRI now includes additional investments, including liquidity supports, to help small and medium-sized enterprises across all sectors manage tariff-related pressures. This includes businesses in steel, automotive, food security, and beyond. The program invests in targeted, time-sensitive activities that boost productivity, lower costs, strengthen supply chain resilience, and open doors to new markets.

September 8, 2026 Update

Following the Government of Canada’s August 25 announcement of expanded supports for businesses impacted by U.S. tariffs, additional details are now available for the Regional Tariff Response Initiative (RTRI), and applications are open through PrairiesCan.

The expanded program may be of interest to Saskatchewan businesses managing tariff-related pressures. Key updates include:

• Up to $3 million in non-repayable support per eligible business
• Up to $2 million of that funding available as liquidity assistance
• Expanded eligibility for businesses with at least $1 million in annual revenue that can demonstrate tariff impacts
• Continued support for projects focused on market diversification, productivity, competitiveness and supply chain resilience

Not-for-profit organizations that support small and medium-sized businesses may also be eligible for funding.
