Western Business Coalition Open Letter to Canada’s 45th Parliament
May 20, 2025
On May 20, 2025, the Saskatchewan Chamber of Commerce joined the Western Business Coalition, alongside the Business Councils of British Columbia, Alberta, and Manitoba, in writing to every Member of Parliament in Canada’s 45th Parliament. The letter calls for urgent action to restore Canada’s economic competitiveness, citing near-zero GDP per capita growth over the past decade, a troubling shift toward public sector expansion at the expense of private sector activity, and the compounding threat of U.S. tariff policies. The Coalition urges Parliament to act immediately on three priorities: abandoning the proposed oil and gas emissions cap, improving tax competitiveness through accelerated depreciation and personal income tax reform, and making regulatory excellence a competitive advantage for the country.
