As the year comes to a close, 2024 stands out as a time marked by growth, transformation, and significant challenges. Many of our businesses continued on a growth trajectory; some faced hurdles with inflation and interest rates; and, without exception, everyone felt the impact of labour disruptions. This was particularly significant for our province, which relies heavily on trade and export.
Nevertheless, our businesses demonstrated the hallmark of Saskatchewan spirit—resilience. The Chamber remained steadfast in advocating for key member priorities at the federal level, including the return of carbon tax proceeds to businesses, addressing the adverse impacts of the federal oil and gas emissions cap, and raising awareness about the complexities and negative consequences of the proposed changes to the Competition Act in Bill C-59 (also known as the Greenwashing Bill). Provincially, the Chamber released our Fueling Momentum 2024 Election Platform, which showcased 26 policy recommendations to spur economic growth, investments, and job creation.
Some of this year’s most significant achievements include the introduction of various new and expanded investment incentives, the maintenance of the provincial small business tax rate at 1%, and a new tax credit for small- and medium-sized enterprises.
