Saskatchewan’s Moment to Lead: Chamber Report Urges Action on Food, Fuel, and Fertilizer

May 29, 2025

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE – May 29, 2025

REGINA, SK – With the world facing growing pressure on food security, energy reliability, and sustainable agriculture, Saskatchewan stands ready to lead—if governments clear the path. That’s the central message of a new advocacy report released today by the Saskatchewan Chamber of Commerce.

“Feeding the Future, Fueling Prosperity, and Fertilizing Growth: Saskatchewan’s Moment to Lead 2025” outlines 24 clear and pragmatic calls to action across five priority areas. The recommendations reflect insights from the province’s third annual Food, Fuel, and Fertilizer Global Summit, which brought together over 400 leaders from business, Indigenous communities, government, and research.

“There is strong alignment across Saskatchewan’s sectors—what emerged from the Summit was a unified voice,” said Prabha Ramaswamy, CEO of the Saskatchewan Chamber of Commerce. “Saskatchewan has what the world needs, and we’re ready to lead with clarity, capacity, and confidence.”

The report’s key focus areas include:

  • Reducing trade and regulatory barriers
  • Investing in infrastructure for export competitiveness
  • Fast-tracking major project approvals
  • Expanding labour access and credential recognition
  • Enabling Indigenous economic participation

The release comes just ahead of the First Ministers’ Meeting in Saskatoon on June 2, where Canada’s premiers and Prime Minister Mark Carney are set to discuss national economic priorities. The Chamber is urging leaders to recognize Saskatchewan’s role as a solutions hub for global markets, and act accordingly.
