Saskatchewan Chamber applauds restraint, commitment in budget
The Provincial Budget released today showed a good balance between the need to respond to financial realities, and the need to maintain long-term growth, said the Saskatchewan Chamber of Commerce.
“The 1.2 per cent increase in operational spending in the provincial budget falls in line with the recommendations we at the Saskatchewan Chamber had made to keep operational spending increases at or below inflation,” said Saskatchewan Chamber CEO Steve McLellan.
“We are also pleased that this budget didn’t contain any tax increases. In our shifting economic climate, increased taxes would have placed a burden on local businesses, as well as consumers, which would have exacerbated existing pressures.”
The $1.3 billion investment in infrastructure, in the six key sectors of transportation, schools, advanced education, municipalities, health and government services, was also welcome news.
“These strategic investments in infrastructure show that the government understands that revenue is cyclical, while preparing for growth is permanent,” McLellan concluded.
