September 30, 2025
National Truth and Reconciliation Day (sometimes known as ‘Orange Shirt Day’) is a time to honour the survivors of Canada’s residential schools, remember those who never returned home, and recognize the families and communities forever impacted. It is also a day for all Saskatchewan residents to reflect, learn, and take meaningful steps toward reconciliation.
This day reminds us that reconciliation is a shared responsibility. By listening to Indigenous knowledge keepers and survivors, reading their testimonies, and supporting local events and initiatives, we can better understand the lasting impacts of the residential school system and contribute to healing.
The Truth and Reconciliation Commission’s Final Report continues to provide vital guidance, calling on all of us to take action. Every step, whether through education, dialogue, or community involvement, helps build a stronger path forward.
Today, September 30, we encourage you to wear orange, participate in community events, and use this day to amplify Indigenous voices and stories. Together, we can work toward a future rooted in understanding, respect, and reconciliation.
