Saskatchewan Chamber of Commerce Applauds Saskatchewan’s Growth Plan

November 14, 2019

The Saskatchewan Chamber of Commerce (SCC) views the Province’s newly released growth plan as an ambitious yet practical roadmap for driving sustainable economic growth over the coming decade.

The Province’s new growth plan focuses on creating 100,000 new jobs, increasing exports, promoting value-added activities, investing in infrastructure development and growing the province’s population to 1.4 million people over the next 10 years.

“I want to congratulate the Premier and the Government of Saskatchewan on the release of a growth plan that not only sends a positive message to the business community, but also offers a clear strategy to achieving sustainable growth in our province,” said Steve McLellan, CEO of the SCC.

In September 2019, the Saskatchewan Chamber of Commerce released its latest report, Beyond 2020:A Blueprint for Saskatchewan Business Competitiveness, to address many of the key issues facing the Saskatchewan business community. Beyond 2020 provides 24 recommendations in 6 key areas that could serve as a blueprint on how government can move forward to ensure continued competitiveness. Some recommendations made in the report were adopted in the growth plan. Notable examples include ensuring Saskatchewan goods get to market; a commitment to further trade diversification; proactively addressing interprovincial trade barriers; and workforce development-related initiatives around foundational skills, work-integrated learning, STEM-based learning opportunities in the K-12 curriculum and more.

“We believe the Province’s growth plan will boost our economy and has provided the optimism that the Saskatchewan business community has been searching for,” added McLellan.

The Saskatchewan Chamber of Commerce is the voice of business in the Province and represents the interests of over 10,000 individual businesses, industry associations, and local Chambers across the province through the Chamber network.
