The SCC submitted a response to the Government of Canada on the options to cap GHG emissions in the oil and gas sector on September 30th. We proposed that:

1. The focus should be on attracting and making decarbonization investments. Examining only 2 options for a complex industry and issue is limiting.
2. The current proposal could result in Canada becoming uncompetitive globally.
3. There are numerous other GHG policies that have been recently put forward, they need an opportunity to be fully implemented before more, new regulations are added.
4. The government should avoid siloing sectors as cross-sector activities can accelerate decreases in the country’s total GHG emissions.
