News Release: 3/28/2018 Saskatchewan Chamber of Commerce Applauds Financial Literacy Announcement

March 28, 2018

The Saskatchewan Chamber of Commerce has been a strong advocate for Youth Financial Literacy as part of the K-12 curriculum for a number of years, and congratulates the Honourable Gord Wyant on the announcement that such a curriculum will be introduced in schools across Saskatchewan in the 2018/2019 school year.

“Making sure that Saskatchewan’s youth are equipped with the skills and knowledge they need to make responsible financial decisions now and for the future is vital. Having a Financial Literacy component in the Saskatchewan school curriculum has been a policy priority for the Chamber for a long time and we are thrilled that this important step has been taken to prepare school graduates,” said Steve McLellan, CEO of the Saskatchewan Chamber of Commerce.

The Saskatchewan Chamber, along with a number of other organizations, formed the Saskatchewan Youth Financial Literacy Network in 2016 to improve advocacy efforts on the issue of Financial Literacy education as part of the K-12 curriculum. This network, and the network of the Saskatchewan Chamber membership has ensured that stakeholders continue to be aware of the importance of financial literacy education in schools across the province.
