Saskatchewan Chamber of Commerce supports the provincial government’s “Made in Saskatchewan” plan to reduce carbon emissions.
 
In November 2016, the Saskatchewan Chamber of Commerce surveyed its members on the issue of carbon pricing and the results clearly showed that the Chamber should continue to support the provincial government’s opposition to the implementation of a federal carbon pricing program and also advocate for technological investments and incentives to reduce emissions.
 
The Government of Saskatchewan has today unveiled a proactive plan that will be much more aligned with the unique characteristics of Saskatchewan and its economy than the federal carbon tax.
 
The Saskatchewan Chamber of Commerce and its Expert Committee on Environment had previously met with officials from the Ministry of Environment to hear details regarding this new “Made in Saskatchewan” plan to reduce carbon emissions and address climate change, so the announcement today is commendable.
 
“We congratulate Minister Duncan on taking this important step towards reducing Saskatchewan’s carbon emissions with a ‘Made in Saskatchewan’ plan,” said Steve McLellan, CEO of the Saskatchewan Chamber of Commerce.

The Saskatchewan Chamber of Commerce is hopeful that the federal government will accept this new plan and will also work with its many member businesses throughout the province to ensure details of it are communicated appropriately.
