Sask Chamber lauds SaskBuilds’ silver P3 award

Saskatchewan Joint Use Schools Project 1 and 2 wins Award for Innovation and Excellence in P3s
Following an announcement that the Saskatchewan Joint Use Schools Project 1 (SJUSP1) and 2 (SJUSP2) had won a silver award for Innovative Partnerships, part of the 2015 National Awards for Innovation and Excellence in Public-Private Partnerships (P3s), Saskatchewan Chamber of Commerce CEO Steve McLellan said he was delighted with the win, and that it underscores this province’s ability to undertake sizeable, complex P3 projects successfully.

“The Joint Use Schools projects are one example of how Saskatchewan is leading the way in the area of P3 infrastructure projects,” said McLellan. “To have been recognized by the Canadian Council for Public-Private Partnerships (CCPPP) through this award really shows how valuable P3 projects are for our province, and how they can embrace innovation, efficiency and partnerships on all levels.”

The SJUSP1 and SJUSP2 projects are the realization of collaboration between SaskBuilds and the Joint Use Mutual Partnership Team, which involves 18 schools built on nine joint use sites across the province. Currently underway, the project schedule will allow for school openings in the fall of 2017. The schools will be fully owned and operated by the school divisions.

McLellan added that the Saskatchewan Chamber congratulates the provincial government on its foresight and initiative in putting the project together, and bringing partners from all levels, from provincial school boards to local subtrades and suppliers, to government entities together, to complete the project.

“This award represents significant recognition for SaskBuilds, and for the government, that the P3 model is a positive and desirable mode of project delivery for the province,” McLellan said.
The award will be presented at the CCPPP annual conference November 2 in Toronto.
