Media Release: Saskatoon Industry Education Council Launches SaskMoney Website

November 9, 2020

Saskatoon, SK – As part of Financial Literacy Month this November, the Saskatoon Industry Education Council (SIEC), in partnership with the Saskatchewan Chamber of Commerce and the Saskatchewan Business Teachers Association, is pleased to announce the launch of SaskMoney.ca. The website is a one-stop shop for educators working to increase students’ financial literacy skills. This SIEC program is built by teachers for teachers and will provide resources and activities that connect directly to 42 modules in Saskatchewan’s Financial Literacy 20/30 curriculum.

“The students of Saskatchewan are the real winners with this website. Anything that can help teachers deliver solid and current content is something we support. We thank the SIEC for their dedication to making financial education a priority," said an Executive for the Saskatchewan Business Teachers Association (SBTA).

SaskMoney.ca allows teachers and community members to find lesson ideas and resources to support financial literacy instruction. A live website tour will be offered on November 10th at 3pm. Community members can register here: https://zoom.us/webinar/register/WN_pjx-AikpQESH-ycKTgLung

“Launching SaskMoney.ca will provide our educators the tools they need to teach financial literacy to our young people,” said Janet Uchacz-Hart, Saskatoon Industry Education Council Executive Director. “It is imperative that youth develop knowledge and skills to manage money effectively throughout all parts of their life.”

SIEC is a proud member of the Saskatchewan Chamber of Commerce and along with the SBTA, the three organizations continue to collaborate on furthering financial literacy in schools across the province.

“Financial literacy, particularly during this time of the COVID-19 pandemic, is essential for giving our youth the tools they need to succeed in the future. Part of building this success is providing teachers with the resources and knowledge to help students become financially empowered. We’re excited to support the SIEC as they launch this important new tool for financial literacy,” said Steve McLellan, Saskatchewan Chamber of Commerce CEO.
