Unlocking Saskatchewan’s true potential requires full inclusion of Indigenous Peoples in the economy. Bridging the Indigenous education gap and aligning their economic status with the broader population represents a $90 billion opportunity.
The Saskatchewan Chamber of Commerce (SCC) is committed to enhancing Indigenous Engagement and has included Indigenous Engagement in our Strategic Plan.
We recommend that all Saskatchewan businesses develop an Indigenous Engagement Plan. In 2020, we launched the Indigenous Engagement Charter to assist businesses with this goal, and urge all businesses to sign onto the Charter.
When building your plan, consider including suggested actions such as investing in staff education through Indigenous awareness training, shaping human resources practices to attract, retain, and advance Indigenous talent, adopting procurement strategies that support Indigenous-owned businesses, and fostering enduring relationships while aiding Indigenous communities.
The SCC also recommends that government agencies create and implement Indigenous Procurement policies with publicly reported results.
